INDIA VINTAGE ROSE ATTAR
India White Roses traditionally infused in sandalwood and Aged Naturally
Provenance: Lucknow, North India
Whether it be love poems or simply folk stories, there is no flower on earth that has had as much written about it as the Rose. The rose has reigned supreme in the world of flowers for hundreds of years. In India, the rose has always been the symbol of love, passion and devotion. The flower has graced homes and temples and even gods, in the form of elaborate garlands for centuries and continues to do so to this day. Rose petals are also known as part of the ‘feast of the Gods.’
The elegant rose achieved an even higher status among the royals of medieval India. Empress Mumtaz Mahal (third and favorite wife of Emperor Shah Jahan and the inspiration for the Taj Mahal) and Empress Nur Jahan (the twelfth and favorite wife of Mughal Emperor Jehangir) had been known to be quite fond of roses. Empress Nur Jahan bathed in rosewater every morning prepared from the most exquisite roses from her rose gardens of Old Delhi.
Rose Attar, the pure essence of roses, dominates the heart chakra, the fourth house – evoking euphoria, love and passion. Ever popular as an aphrodisiac in India, it is known to cure depression and melancholy by dramatically soothing and strengthening the heart.
Our Vintage India Rose Attar is made with North Indian white roses in the traditional method using copper vessels called degs. Rose petals are added to water in the degs and the deg is then sealed with a clay lid. The aromatic vapors, produced from a wood fire, rise through hollow bamboo pipes and pass into another deg filled with pure sandalwood oil. There the vapors condense and after a few days of distillation, the water and the oil separate, allowing most of the aromatic molecules to become infused with the sandalwood oil. The process is repeated for approximately 25 days until the sandalwood oil becomes thoroughly saturated with the rich perfume of roses. The rose enriched sandalwood oil is then stored in wooden barrels for a period of anywhere from at least five years to twenty-five years to allow the woody tones to gently permeate the sweetness of the rose creating an intoxicating full bodied blend. The effect is grounding and very soothing.
Vintage Rose Attar promotes the energies of the fourth (heart) and seventh (crown) and especially the first (base of the spine)of the chakra houses. The heart chakra is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
The seventh chakra or the crown chakra relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
The first chakra or the Muladhara chakra is located in the base of the spine. Thhis chakra orms our foundation. It represens the elemnt earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us good health, prosperity (spiritual and material), security and dynamic presence.
