“… after lighting the Mahalakshmi deepa lamp, she and Chitra would open the shrine doors for puja; their hair drenched in the heady scent of sambrani and jasmine…”

SAMBRANI HINDU DEVOTIONAL OIL
Resin from exotic woods traditionally steam distilled in traditional clay pots
Provenance: Madhya Pradesh, Central India
Sambrani Oil is derived from the styrax resin, which is a balsamic resin, obtained from a balanced resinaceous mixture of several elements derived from tropical wood, barks, roots of several species of trees in the genus Styrax. Sambrani has been a main component of Hindu temple incense for thousands of years and has a rich and deep smoky fragrance. It has been used since ancient times in Hindu and Buddhist religious ceremonies in temples and domestic shrines during puja (worship) or to simply bring a soothing and meditative atmosphere to any space.
Sambrani is also known as Jhuna and is known to be one of the oldest incenses in India. It increases prana (Sanskrit word that refers to a vital, life-sustaining force of living beings and vital energy in natural processes of the universe). It also helps open the sensorial perception, and gives mental clarity. It induces serenity, removing negative thoughts, calming the nervous system and fostering a quiet mental state. It can be used in any spiritual practice, creating a devotional atmosphere. It purifies the consciousness and calms the mind.
Sambrani Oil promotes the energies of the first (root), third (solar plexus) and seventh (crown) chakras.
The first chakra, located at the base of the spine forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.
The third chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power.
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra that relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
