INDIA GARDENIA ATTAR
Indian Gardenia flowers tradtionally steam distilled in Sandalwood Oil
Provenance: Tamil Nadu State, South India
Gardenia is known as Nadehengu in Sanskrit but in colloquial modern Hindi it is known as Dekamali and prized for its beauty and characteristic sweet fragrance.
Gardenia, a member of the coffee family, has over 60 species of evergreen shrubs and trees and is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of India, Africa and Oceania. Many species are even found in the southern regions of the United States, but with a less intense fragrance than its eastern counterparts.
The scent of Indian gardenia is very similar to a mixture of white roses and jasmine. In India, gardenias are more common in the south part of the country than the north because of South India’s high humidity and warmer temperatures which gardenias thrive in. In the north of India, gardenias bloom from about mid spring to mid summer whereas in the southern part of the country, they can grow year round. The leaves are dark green and glossy and the flower petals have an almost waxy texture that is very characteristic of gardenias from India.
Gardenias are said to originate in China where they are revered for their beauty and fragrance. Gardenias in China and the Far East are symbols of refinement, grace and a life lived well.
Indian gardenia is a very fragrant flower and is characterized by intense floral high notes with a mellow spicy base. Its effervescent top notes are of rose, jasmine and orange blossom which all lead into the dramatic floral heart notes of gardenia, hyacinth and narcissus. Our Gardenia Attar has a sandalwood base with a hint of amber giving it a beautiful full-bodied effect.
Gardenia Attar is ideal for those who need to be propelled up into higher levels of vibration. It is known to be an antidote to feeling ordinary and for those suffering from low self esteem and self belief. The fragrance dispels sadness and melancholy and promotes a sense of well-being. The aroma is also very calming and makes one feel more confident therefore makes one more attractive to other people. In India, gardenias symbolize purity of love, passion and good health.
The essence of gardenia promotes the energy of the fourth chakra house (heart chakra) as well as the seventh chakra house (the crown chakra).
The fourth chakra is called the heart chakra and is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
The seventh chakra house or the crown chakra relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
