In the beginning were the waters. The sun glowed. And a Lotus slowly opened, holding the universe on its golden pericarp.

BRAHMA KAMALA LOTUS ATTAR
Brahma Kamala flowers traditionally infused in Sandalwood Oil
Provenance: State of Kerala, South India
Brahma Kamala is one of the most exotic and alluring botanical essential oils that we have in our collection at Durga Interiors. This visually stunning and dramatic flower is also called Night Queen and only blossoms in the steamy night air. The flower only blooms once every year or two years making it a very rare and welcome treat. The kamala starts emitting its intoxicating scent when the blooming process begins late in the evening and blooms completely by midnight. The fragrance is strongest at the time and one can smell its fragrance in twenty feet radius! Brahma Kamala Attar is a very traditional south Indian attar and has been made for centuries.
The Brahma kamala is named after Lord Brahma, the supreme God of Creation, in Hindu mythology and is therefore considered to be sacred. The flower is said to have sprouted from Lord Vishnu’s naval and from it Lord Brahma is said to have emerged. The flower opens and beckons the mind into stillness and meditation. The bloom is said to embody the essence of Lord Brahma and for this reason it is considered extremely auspicious to pay respects to the flowers when they bloom at night and breathe in the heady fragrance. Another ancient Hindu custom is to offer the Brahma kamala flower or its essence to the Shiva Linga stone and other deities such as Vishnu, Shiva and of course Brahma as special offerings. Goddess Laxmi, the Hindu goddess of prosperity, beauty and good fortune, is known for her love of the flower and its scent.
The fragrance of the Brahma kamala is very similar to the lotus flower, another sacred flower in Hinduism and Buddhism. In fact, the Sanskrit word for the lotus is ‘kamala.’ Brahma kamala oil is obtained from the large and fragrant petals of the flowers as well as the stems using traditional methods. The scent is known to increase clarity, devotion, spiritual prosperity and is extremely effective in opening the heart chakra.
Brahma Kamala Attar is very cooling and highly astringent. The oil is calming, energy balancing and helps the wearer to focus and meditate. Brahma Kamala promotes the energies of the fourth (heart) and the seventh (crown) of the chakra houses.
The heart chakra is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy heart chakra allows us to feel love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
The crown chakra is the seventh chakra and relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond to a timeless and spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection and pure bliss.
