“Sri Laxmi, Grace our homes, our hearts and thoughts and immerse
our ill-bred minds in showers of virtuous nectar.”
Anuradha (21st Century A.D.)

Various botanical extracts traditionally infused in Hibiscus Musk and Aged Naturally
Provenance:  Tamil Nadu State, South India

Sri Laxmi Devotional Oil is an ancient blend of exotic flowers such as mogra, maulsri, lilies, roses, and white lotus blended in a base of botanical musk.  This complex oil has been made in the southern region of India, particularly Tamil Nadu State,  for centuries and is often used in sacred Hindu ceremonies as well as used during meditation, prayer and yoga to  facilitate clarity and to attain focus.  It has a quintessential Indian fragrance – sweet,  powdery with soft ethereal floral notes.

The devotional oil is named after Goddess Laxmi, the Hindu Goddess of Love, Prosperity and Fertility and is often worn as an anointing oil when worshipping the Goddess for her blessings.  The oil is also applied to the “third eye” of  images of Goddess Laxmi and other deities as an offering to the Divine and/or to simply attract the attention of the gods.  Hindu lore and legends suggest that Goddess Laxmi, often perceived as an indifferent and fickle goddess, is so attracted to the scent that she grants tranquility and fortune (spiritual and material) to anyone who wears this oil and remove all their obstacles.  Many wear the oil when worshipping other gods and goddesses as well as it is believed that the scent attracts all deities who in turn will grant them boons.

Following a strict Hindu vegetarian ethos, botanical musk made of hibiscus seeds is used in the preparation of Sri Laxmi Devotional Oil as opposed to deer musk.  Botanical musk has a pleasant mellow aroma and  acts as a perfect anchor to balance the intensity and sweetness of the exotic flowers that are infused in it.  Much milder and softer than animal musk, it comes into its own on warm skin and “blossoms”  in a sweet amber kind of way as it gets more complex and dimensional in combination with the wearers' body chemistry.

Sri Laxmi Devotional Oil takes approximately 2-3 months to create using traditional methods making it a very tenacious and layered oil.  The blend is then allowed to age for several months to allow all the botanical extracts to bind together.  The aging process also allows the initial fatty notes of the botanical musk to break down giving the oil a rich velvety texture.  The result is an ethereal earthy-sweet aroma which is not only pleasing to humans but to all the gods alike!

Sri Laxmi Devotional Oil promotes the energies of the first (base of the spine), fourth (heart) and especially the seventh (crown) of the chakra houses.

The first chakra or the Muladhara chakra is located in the base of the spine. This chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element earth, and is therefore related to our survival instincts, and to our sense of grounding and connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us good health, prosperity (spiritual and material), security and dynamic presence.

The heart chakra is the middle chakra in a system of seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche: mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.

The seventh chakra or the crown chakra relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.
